how a hand works6 steps

your two cards+

five shared cards- the deal Everyone gets two private cards (your "hole cards"). The dealer button moves one seat left every hand. The two players after the button post the small and big blind: forced bets that start the pot. From level 3 the big blind also posts an ante for the whole table.
- preflop Starting left of the big blind, each player folds, calls the big blind, or raises. A raise must be at least the size of the last raise. The big blind acts last and can check if nobody raised.
- the flop Three shared cards are dealt face up. Everyone still in makes their best five-card hand from their two cards plus the shared ones. Betting starts left of the button. With no bet in front of you, you can check.
- turn and river One more shared card, then a round of betting; then the final shared card and the last round of betting. Bets you do not call go to the bettor without a showdown.
- showdown If two or more players remain after the river, cards are shown and the best five-card hand takes the pot. Ties split it. You can use both, one, or none of your hole cards.
- all in and side pots You can bet everything you have at any time. If opponents have more chips, extra bets go into a side pot you cannot win; you can only win what you could match. The table shows each pot.
goal: win chips either by having the best hand at showdown or by betting so everyone else folds.
